The recent posting of a plan to sever Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and carve off apiece for private development should be a harbinger of the the future intent of this Ford government. This is just the latest insult to Ontario’s natural heritage. Under the recently passed omnibus Bill 5 the Endangered SpeciesAct was repealed, the environmental assessment process was gutted and the government granted the right to itself to declare special economic zones where environmental laws won’t apply.
If it sounds like this is a deliberate plan to destroy the natural heritage legacy of our beautiful province, it is! This government is clearly anti-environment and contemptuous of nature as they pursue their obsessive bid to be “pro” economic development. They must be stopped.
It is Wasaga Provincial Park now but next will it will be Sand Banks, Bon Echo orFrontenac. All these parks have attractive features to private development. All will be candidates for partition and sales if the government is allowed to eviscerate the prohibitions that exist to prevent this in the current ProvincialParks and Conservation Reserves Act.
This is the Red Line where we must take a stand against the contemptuous anti-nature activity of a government that has lost its contact with the people and the heritage which defines them and they love. We must rise up and object to them selling off our conservation lands!
