The Great Canadian Giving Challenge: June 1-30

For the month of June, we are participating in Canada Helps Great Canadian Giving Challenge! The Great Canadian Giving Challenge is a month-long initiative that first started 8years ago. Every dollar donated this month will give us the chance to win a significant prize donation of $20,000 from Canada Helps. This amount will significantly help us advance our campaigns advocating for the protection of Ontario’s rare old-growth pine forests and the threatened Eastern wolf.

Humans have had a negative impact on our environment. Our actions throughout many years have triggered overhead environmental issues which have led to even more problems that we face today. Currently, there are over 200 species that are listed on the Species at Risk in Ontario list. Habitat loss caused by human activity is the main driver for the decline of wildlife in the province. Key areas that many species call home and are vital components in the fight against climate change, such as old-growth forests and wetlands, are being selfishly destroyed for development right before our eyes.

We won't lose hope! Rising to the challenge is in our DNA

Here in Ontario, the provincial government continues to weaken and ignore environmental laws and policies showing that their concern for wilderness and wildlife is extremely low. With the many issues we are facing, it would have been easy to just give up. But that’s not Earthroots.

Our DNA, shaped by our fight to stop the logging of forests in the Temagami in 1986, has made us scrappy, persistent, and strategic. We fight for what we believe in, and we get things done, especially when things get tough.

We will continue to advocate for the protection of Ontario’s vulnerable species and spaces, but we can’t do it alone! As a non-profit, we rely solely on generous donations from our friends and supporters. Every dollar donated this month counts – Help us win $20,000 for Ontario’s endangered species and spaces by donating today!
