About Us
Protecting Ontario's Wild Places
Since our founding in 1986, Earthroots has remained fiercely independent and committed to environmental justice.

Territory
Acknowledgement
Earthroots acknowledges that the lands we work to protect are the traditional territories of many Indigenous Nations who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. In particular, much of our work takes place on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, and Métis peoples, as well as within the treaty and unceded territories of Nations including the Teme-Augama Anishnabai in the Temagami region.

Commitment to Respect and Reciprocity
We recognize the enduring presence, deep knowledge, and ongoing stewardship of Indigenous peoples across Ontario and Canada. We are committed to building relationships based on respect, reciprocity, and solidarity with Indigenous communities, and to supporting Indigenous-led conservation as part of our mission to protect wilderness, wildlife, and biodiversity.

Invitation to
Reflect and Act
We invite all those who engage with our work to reflect on the history and responsibilities of being on this land, and to support Indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice.

Earthroots Fund
Earthroots® Fund is a Canadian registered charity (#135165140 RR0001) dedicated to protecting and maintaining the ecological integrity of natural landscapes, including biodiversity as well as the archaeological and cultural aspects of the landscape through research, education, and action. From ancient old-growth forests and rich wetlands to the critical habitats of species at risk, we work to keep Ontario wild through science-based conservation and community-led efforts to safeguard the places and creatures that sustain us all. We use tools like grassroots advocacy, public awareness campaigns, ecological mapping, and citizen science to push for stronger protections and hold governments accountable.
