November 6, 2008 - Toronto - Last night Premier Dalton McGuinty and the community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) were honoured with awards for protecting the Boreal Forest at an annual gala in Ottawa held in the National Art Gallery. Award winners were recognized by a cross section of Canada's leading community, business and Aboriginal leaders, politicians and engaged Canadians. Free-entry system causing chaos; taxpayers on hook for half a billion dollars
November 5, 2008 - Toronto - Two major environmental groups released a legal report today highlighting serious flaws in Ontario's antiquated Mining Act that has lead to more than a century of conflict between mining companies, the public and Aboriginal peoples. Prepared by the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy (CIELAP) and Ecojustice (formerly Sierra Legal Defence Fund), the report presents the Ontario government with a clear framework for updating the law and revamping the contentious elements of the law.
